Boo, an adorable Pomeranian that captured the worldâs heart and claimed the title of the âworldâs cutest dogâ through internet fame, has passed away, likely from a broken heart, according to Booâs humans.
Boo, who was 12-years-old in human years, passed away in his sleep Friday morning, according to a statement from his owners.
âWith deepest sadness I wanted to share that Boo passed away in his sleep early this morning and has left us to join his best friend, Buddy,â the statement read. âOur family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort. We know that Buddy was the first to greet him on the other side of that rainbow bridge, and this is likely the most excited either of them have been in a long time.â

Boo, who, according to USA Today, became a social media superstar with over 16 million Facebook followers, was often photographed alongside his pal and fellow Pomeranian, Buddy.
According to Booâs humans, Boo developed some heart issues after Buddy passed away in 2017, which his owners suspect was due to Boo being heartbroken over the loss of his close friend.
âShortly after Buddy died, Boo showed signs of heart issues. We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us. He hung on and gave us over a year. But it looks like it was his time, and Iâm sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven,â the statement continued.
According to The Huffington Post, Boo rose to fame on social media in 2009, and his owners released multiple books written about him, including Boo: The Life of the Worldâs Cutest Dog, which was released in 2011.
The adorable Pomeranian was also featured on TV shows like ABCâs Good Morning America, USA Today reports.
âBoo brought joy to people all over the world. Boo is the happiest dog Iâve ever met. He was so easy going that we never had to bother with training. He made the manliest of men squeal with delight over his cuteness and made everyone laugh with his quirky, tail wagging personality,â his owners wrote in the statement.
And Boo sure did bring joy to people around the world, as fans poured in messages of love.
