It’s a bad day for Republican candidates whose first names start with “C.” Carly Fiorina and Chris Christie both suspended their presidential campaigns today, one day after both finished poorly in the New Hampshire primary. Donald Trump got more than 35 percent of the votes in N.H., while Christie got 7 percent and Fiorina only got 4 percent.
“To young girls and women across the country, I say: do not let others define you,” Fiorina said in a statement announcing her withdrawal, according to USA Today. “Do not listen to anyone who says you have to vote a certain way or for a certain candidate because you’re a woman. That is not feminism.” Not to read too much into that, but it definitely sounds like she’s taking a jab at Hillary Clinton there.
Christie has not officially announced the end of his campaign, but one of his “allies” told The New York Times, “He’s done.” Now, people are wondering which remaining candidate Christie’s going to endorse.
It’s really too bad to see the only female candidate besides Hillary drop out of the race, but it’s not surprising—Fiorina wasn’t even doing well enough in the polls to participate in the last mainstage Republican debate. Now that the GOP field of candidates is shrinking, we may start to get an idea of who’s likely to be the party’s nominee.
