Last year, the CW announced plans for a reboot of the 1998 fan favorite show Charmed. Originally the plan was to develop a prequel series set in the 1970s, but that plan has changed and the show will now be set in present day.
The updated pilot has a more modern premise, according to the official statement from the network. “This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”
There has been no word if original cast members Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, and Rose McGowan will be featured in the reboot, but setting it in present day definitely opens up the opportunity for the OG witches to appear.
Holly Marie Combs has been pretty active on Twitter since the news dropped, and she doesn’t seem too happy about the reboot.Â
Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.

Who knows what the new show will look like, but I for one am here for anything that has to do with “tearing down the patriarchy.” We’ll just have to wait and see.Â
