While Chipotle doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to adding new items to its simple menu (it too a long time to get that queso right, and TBH, a lot of us are still skeptical), the restaurant is giving it another go — and this time, they’re adding quinoa.
According to Business Insider, Chipotle rolled out quinoa as a rice replacement option in burritos and bowls at its test kitchen location in New York City on Monday.
“The quinoa is made with red and gold quinoa tossed with a little citrus juice, cumin, and freshly chopped cilantro,” Chris Arnold, a Chipotle representative, told Business Insider. “We are recommending that added to a salad or in place of rice in another entree.”

Okay so yes, quinoa is a delicious and ~trendy~ food item that we love adding to salads — but a Chipotle burrito or bowl-sized portion of the stuff? We’re not so sure. I mean, that’s a LOT of quinoa.
So far, reactions have been decidedly mixed:
I would eat Chipotle again if they added quinoa https://t.co/bjjPPdrExm

I got horrible food poisoning once from bad quinoa. Not sure I’ll trust chipotle with its handling based on their track record.

Adding Quinoa to your Chipotle chicken burrito is like me saying I love myself but continue to allow people to disrespect me

Of course, it’s worth noting that the company is only testing its quinoa recipe in its test location — meaning it could be awhile until we see it in every location (if ever). Hey, if you’re looking to add a serious protein boost to your burrito bowl and the carnitas just aren’t cutting it, this may be your thing.
