Well, it looks like not everyone wants to be part of Taylor Swift’s girl squad. In a recent interview with Complex, actress Chloë Grace Moretz offered her opinion on the rise of the girl squad. While the actress didn’t necessarily throw shade at Tay, she did imply that’s not too keen on the concept. In fact, she feels so strongly that she turned down the opportunity to join Taylor’s crew.
When asked if she knows Taylor (Chloë is friends with Selena Gomez), she gave a short, “Yes.” And when asked if she’d been invited to join the well-known girl gang, she gave the same curt reply—without any further explanation.
This isn’t the first time the 5th Wave actress dissed the idea of joining a squad. In her cover interview with Nylon, she voiced similar beliefs. While she definitely values having a group of close friends, she just doesn’t understand the “squad” hype. In her opinion, squads promote exclusivity, and Chloë is completely against that. “I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I got out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included,” Chloë said in the interview.
In short, don’t expect Chloë to join Taylor’s squad… like, ever.
I agree with having a good core group of friends,” she told our Patty Adams Martinez, “but the issue I have with squads is it creates exclusivity.” She continued, “I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I go out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included.”“[Squads] appropriate exclusivity. They’re cliques!” This 100 percent echoes what Moretz told us just a couple of months ago in her much-talked about NYLON cover story. “I agree with having a good core group of friends,” she told our Patty Adams Martinez, “but the issue I have with squads is it creates exclusivity.” She continued, “I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I go out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included.” Basically, the very notion of #SquadGoals is old hat for her.
