Instagram and the Unwell Network (aka Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy fame’s new company) have released a brand new podcast together titled Close Friends Only, and the first episode, which dropped on Dec. 7, features iconic music artists Ice Spice and Doja Cat. The podcast delivers uncut content to its audience — it’s a place to listen to your favorite artists and influencers talking about topics that they would only really share with their closest friends. Close Friends Only will feature different celebrities in each episode.
The podcast is now available on streaming sites such as YouTube, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Apple Podcasts. Being a collaboration with Instagram, Close Friends Only also centers around topics that you would find on social media — like memes and shady DMs. Ice and Doja got to show their favorite memes and the juiciest messages in their inbox, explained how to flirt on Instagram, and more during their episode.
In one clip of the podcast, Doja showed Ice her favorite meme, which happens to be of Will Smith “bending over on the red carpet.” In the image, Will Smith is smiling while on his hands and knees. Doja also talks about another favorite meme of hers, where a cat’s eyes are bulging out of his face, supposedly looking like he’s about to vomit. Doja also shows a meme that reminds her of Ice, which is a “little bunny” from the meme that goes, “When you’re being mean to me, this is who you’re being mean to.” Ice responds, “I say that all the time.”
The podcast also featured Doja and Ice talking about fashion. Doja explained how Instagram is her greatest source of inspiration because it features clothes like “ballet flats” and “sneakers that lace up in the front” to her feed. She also talked about how she likes the Blokette style look. Ice explains how her white dress that she wore to the 2023 VMAs was her favorite look because it was inspired by Madonna and Britney, and how she’s into the Y2Kcore look right now. When asked about what makes someone a good friend, Ice said that it’s “loyalty. Loyalty over everything.”Â
The pair also went into influencing, and Doja spoke about how she hopes she’s influencing the next generation, “I hope that I influence people to express themselves the way that they want to,” she said. They both agree that the podcast brought them to be “closer friends.”
There’s a ton more that the two music icons touched on in their podcast, so head over to Close Friends Only to learn more. And stay tuned for the next episode — I can’t wait to see who they have on next.
