Being a mom of two daughters has its requirements, like dressing up and pretending to be a queen when they lend you their tiara. But that type of quality time wasn’t always possible for Danielle Jonas — she developed a condition on her scalp after the birth of her second child, Valentina, in 2016, making activities like playing dress-up extremely uncomfortable. “I had an underlying condition, and it brought out moderate eczema, and I was trying all these treatments,” Jonas tells Her Campus. “It took me time to figure out what it was.”
Jonas’ eczema came with some uncomfortable symptoms, including redness and itchiness. She was told by her doctor to try Dupixent as a treatment, and noticed a difference within “a couple of weeks to a month.” It completely changed her. “I even came downstairs and I told Kevin, ‘I took a shower without feeling so uncomfortable, and I brushed my hair up without feeling so uncomfortable,’” she says.
Kevin — of course — being Jonas’ husband of 13 years, and one third of the Jonas Brothers. He’s been a constant pillar of support for her since her diagnosis. “I saw how uncomfortable she was at times with her hair, and especially with the girls. They would want to play with her hair and put a crown on her, and she would be so uncomfortable,” he says. “And so I stepped in when I could, and just be like, ‘Hey, put the crown on me! Do my hair!’ Doing what I can in those little moments.”
The two share such a calming and supportive energy, which is probably why they also enjoy working together on select projects, like their two children’s books. Their first book, There’s a Rock Concert in My Bedroom, was published in March 2022. Their second, There’s a Beach in My Bedroom, hit shelves in July 2023. “Working with Dani is so fun … we have so much joy working together when we can,” Kevin says. “Our life takes us in so many different directions.”
It’s an understatement for the ages, as Kevin and the Jonas Brothers just started their international tour, THE TOUR, on Aug. 12. Kevin and his brothers, Nick and Joe Jonas, play a setlist consisting of 60 songs each night, spanning across their five albums. “This is a big one,” Kevin says. “This is a culmination of our entire career to this point, it’s five albums in one night. It’s a gauntlet, but I cannot wait for everyone to see it.” The U.S. leg of their tour ends in New York on Dec. 9 of this year — the international dates run through June 20, 2024.
While Kevin has been working in the spotlight, Danielle has been creating a name of her own — being a “total badass,” as Kevin says — through her businesses. Aside from her partnership with Sanofi and Regeneron (the companies that created Dupixent), two books under her belt, and being a full-time mom, she’s also the founder of Danielle Jonas Co., a luxury jewelry company. “It’s really cool to see her thrive in her own way,” Kevin says.
Danielle hopes her goal of highlighting the seriousness of eczema and her experience with Dupixent can help others return to their routines and their normal lives. “Don’t give up,” she says. “I hope this helps people [understand] that there is treatment, and [don’t] be embarrassed by it. Everyone goes through things. Everybody has something.”
