Did Justin Bieber Seriously Just Shade Prince?

With the untimely death of music icon Prince, many celebrities have shared touching social media posts commemorating the legend. However, Justin Bieber may be one musician who is not feeling the love.

A recent comment Bieber supposedly left on an Instagram post dedicated to Prince has sent fans of the legend into an uproar. Guitarist Andrew Watt posted a tribute to Prince on Instagram where he referred to the musician as the “last of the greatest living performers.” Bieber seemingly did not agree with that statement and commented “well not the last greatest living performer.”

Bieber’s comment has since been deleted, but not before the Internet could (of course) take numerous screenshots. It’s unclear whether he was referring to himself or another living artist when he made the comment, but one thing is for sure—the Internet is mad AF. Fans angered over Bieber’s alleged comment have taken to social media to express their frustration, while others have passionately defended the Canadian musician.

Meanwhile, Gossip Cop claims that Bieber’s rep is calling the screenshot “fabricated,” though we’ll probably never know for sure.

Whatever the motivation for the comment was and no matter who posted it, it definitely appears to have been inappropriate. Prince was undoubtedly an icon and his death shouldn’t be used to argue who’s the next best living music legend. Not cool.
