Doja Cat’s Scarlet era is one that keeps on giving. The album which featured 17 songs including the hit track “Agora Hills” that gave us major Stranger Things vibes, has a deluxe edition coming out.
Doja released her highly anticipated fourth studio album Scarlet on Sept. 22 and it was immediately praised by fans. The album went on to debut at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Now that a deluxe version of Scarlet is coming, fans will have a chance to hear even more music from Doja, but what vibe will this edition give off? Fortunately for fans, the singer revealed some new information about the deluxe edition, and TBH, it sounds like she has some gems in store.Â
What will the deluxe edition album be called?   Â
On Feb. 15, the rapper revealed on the Therapy Gecko podcast that her album will have a deluxe version. Though no official release date has been confirmed, Doja hinted that fans can expect the album to be released soon. The name? S2: Claude Frollo. I know, I’m stunned too.Â
If you’ve watched The Hunchback of Norte Dame, then you know that Claude Frollo is the antagonist of the film. Doja confirmed on the podcast that she feels like Claude Frollo connects to the story Scarlet tells. In the film, Frollo is a tyrant – he’s controlling, dogmatic, and abuses his power, making it seem like beef is brewing.Â
But Doja confirmed that she has nothing against anyone. “There’s nothing really personal happening to me with one person,” she said. “Claude Frollo doesn’t depict a single person in my life. It’s like a metaphor for the people creatives endure on a daily basis.” I have to admit, the album name speaks to the artistry of Doja Cat and leans into her drawing on an alter ego to write Scarlet. Ultimately using the album to step into herself as a rapper and artist.Â
How many songs will be featured on S2: Claude Frollo?
Doja also revealed that the upcoming deluxe edition album will feature 7-8 new songs. She even shared seven track titles on her Instagram Story, which could potentially be the track titles for S2: Claude Frollo – “Acknowledge Me,” “Head High,” “Gang,” “Masc,” “Rider,” “Urrrge!!!!” and “Hungry.” I’m curious to see if these new songs continue to embody the metaphorical approach Scarlet has taken.
It also makes me question: Will S2: Claude Frollo have an alter ego driving the songs or is it Scarlet’s alter ego responding to the metaphor Claude Frollo represents? I guess we’ll just have to wait to see.Â
