Don’t Worry Darling’s second trailer released on July 21, giving fans a deeper glimpse into the twisted film starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, and director Olivia Wilde. But while Styles and Wilde promoted the latest trailer on their social media platforms, Pugh has remained real quiet — leading fans to believe that some tea may be brewing.
Slated to hit screens on Sept. 23, Don’t Worry Darling is a psychological thriller set in an eerie utopia deep in the California hills. The movie hones in on couple Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles), who live in said experimental community. While the two seem to have a picture-perfect life together, Alice begins uncovering some dark and disturbing secrets about the neighborhood she calls home — and the life she once knew quickly falls apart.
While this perfect world may not be everything that it seems, it also appears that the relationships within the cast — and particularly between Pugh and Wilde — is not all that it seems, either. Here is everything you need to know about the rumored drama.
Pugh didn’t post about the Don’t Worry Darling trailer.
While Pugh is well-known by fans to religiously promote all of her current projects on social media, she has remained uncharacteristically quiet about Don’t Worry Darling, despite it being a larger — and highly anticipated — project of hers. Instead of promoting the second Don’t Worry Darling trailer yesterday on July 21 when it aired like Styles and Wilde did on their accounts, Pugh posted about her upcoming movie Oppenheimer, starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, on her Instagram Story. Meaning, something is definitely fishy here.
In an apparent effort to dispel any rumors of beef between the two, Wilde posted about Pugh on Instagram, writing, “Watching this woman work was such a f*cking thrill! Cannot wait to show you more. @florencepugh @dontworrydarling.” Pugh did not comment on the post, and comments have now been limited.
The Rumored beef Between The Two Isn’t New.
Rumors began to swirl about drama bubbling between Pugh and Wilde when it was suggested that Pugh had to pick up a lot of the directing responsibilities as Wilde and Styles’s romance budded on set.
TikTok creator @clairenotdanes made a video explaining the drama, saying, “There’s rumors that there might have been something between Pugh and Styles; I don’t necessarily know if I believe that because she’s in a committed, long-term relationship [with Zach Braff]. But there are a lot of rumors that with Florence Pugh and Harry Styles being really good friends at the beginning of [filming Don’t Worry Darling and] spending time together, that when Olivia started to feel things for Harry, that caused conflict on set.”
In the video, Claire continued, “The biggest rumor that I’ve heard overall — and that also supposedly came from production assistants that worked on the set of Don’t Worry Darling — [is that] they said that with Olivia being so preoccupied spending time with Harry, that that led to Florence to have to do a lot of work and pick up the slack.”
User @producerliz, who analyzes celebrity press on TikTok, also posted about the rumored drama, saying, “Every time something new has come out about Don’t Worry Darling, Florence has posted about a different project on her [Instagram Stories].” The creator continued, “[Olivia’s] team is working overtime to try to make us think that there’s no beef between these two. Florence is working overtime to promote every single project that’s not Don’t Worry Darling, and that is very unlike her.”
While neither Pugh nor Wilde have confirmed the drama, there definitely seems to be something brewing — and will it all come to a head once Don’t Worry Darling is released? Only time will tell.
