Iām a big sister, and itās one of the proudest roles Iāve gotten to take on. But every big sister needs their big sister, and Iād like to nominate Drew Afualo as my honorary one. As much as I love Afualoās TikToks and podcast, what Iām really looking forward to is her next project: her first published book LOUD: Accept Nothing Less Than The Life You Deserve.Ā
If youāre unfamiliar with Afualo, allow me to introduce you to your new BFF, best advice-giver, and internet big sis. Afualo currently boasts 7.9 million followers on TikTok, where she creates videos reacting to sexist TikToks posted by men primarily. She also talks about current issues in politics, pop culture, and more.Ā
Above all, Afualoās account is a source of encouragement, positivity, and confidence for women in all stages of life. Whether youāre going through a breakup, or just need a reminder to accept nothing less than the life you deserve, Afualo is your gal.Ā
On Feb. 15, Afualo unveiled the cover for her first book LOUD on her Instagram and TikTok accounts and itās perfect. She announced that the book is now available for pre-order, and that it will be officially released to retailers (both online and in person) on July 30, 2024.Ā
Afualo defined her book as part manual, part manifesto, and part memoir, which is bound to inspire you, motivate you, and of course, make you laugh. According to the bookās description on Amazon, Loud āmakes it clear that behind her fearsome laugh is a mission and a life philosophy, a strategy for self-confidence from the inside out, and a pathway to once and for all remove men from the center of how women and femmes think about themselves.ā The description continues, āIt didnāt take long for her to step into the role of unofficial watchdog for misogyny, and her signature laugh is now recognized as a feminist call to arms, a summoning cry to rid the internet (and our hearts, minds, and lives) of āterrible menā and create a space to fight outdated patriarchal ideals.āĀ
What sets Afualo apart from other content creators is her brutal honesty. Sheās not afraid to address issues and people, and she also opens up about her personal experiences, really shedding light on issues like sexism, fatphobia, and racism, and these are issues sheās sure to address in her new book.Ā
I, for one, will be purchasing this book the day it comes out, and will also be reading it that same day. Afualoās platform is such a source of positivity and laughter for me, and I canāt wait to experience that in a book!Ā
