Dunkin’ Donuts Is Dropping The ‘Donuts’ In 2019, Apparently & I’m Confused

Dunkin’ Donuts Chief Marketing Officer Tony Weisman revealed to the public that after 70 years, the company will be changing its name to “Dunkin’” in 2019, according to a press release from the coffee and dooughnut chain.

Weisman states that the rebranding will be “simpler, shorter and more modern.”

“And while donuts may no longer appear in our logo, we remain committed to serving our signature donuts and will continue to offer new and seasonal varieties to delight donut lovers everywhere. There is no Dunkin’ without donuts,” the press release says.

People on Twitter were obviously confused about the rebranding — and more than ready to take the cast-off doughnuts, if any existed:

I don’t know about you, but the name-change is a head scratcher. Dropping the ‘Dunkin’ from “Dunkin Donuts” is like dropping the ‘Burger’ from ‘Burger King’ — or changing ‘IHOP’ to ‘IHOB.’

Considering that Dunkin’ Donuts is a cultural staple for a good part of the country (America runs on Dunkin, after all), the decision to change the name may be hit or miss for their customers.
