Often, celebrities are viewed as invincible despite being very much the same as us. So really, it’s not very surprising that many celebrities go through the same struggles as us. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently shared his story of his fight with depression, and in doing so reminded us of his humanity. He also, by making the brave choice to share his struggle, reminded others that they are not alone in their fight against depression.
Johnson not only witnessed his family dealing with depression, but also battled with his own. During an interview with “Express,” published on April 1, Johnson explained that his personal experience with depression started with his mom’s depression and suicide attempt. Johnson recalled pulling his mom off of the road after “she got out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic.”
The actor also discussed other instances in his life where he struggled with depression. After his then-girlfriend broke up with him and injuries ended Johnson’s chances of playing professional football, Johnson found himself in a state of depression.Â
In sharing his struggles with depression with the world, Johnson showed an amazing amount of strength and courage. People have seemed to react in a heartwarming way. One fan responded to Johnson on Twitter, and the actor responded with love and support.
The fact that @TheRock once battled depression.. & he’s where he is now, one of the biggest stars ever.

Got tons of responses to this. Thank you. We all go thru the sludge/shit and depression never discriminates. Took me a long time to realize it but the key is to not be afraid to open up. Especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in. You’re not alone
