It’s no secret that summer isn’t exactly known as “cuffing season.” Between big social media breakups and yet another Taylor Swift heartbreak (seriously, does anyone know what happened between her and Matty Healy?), summer 2023 isn’t the best time to be in a relationship, IMHO. That is, unless you’re Dylan Minnette.
But first, some background. If you’re not familiar with Dylan Minnette, you may recognize him from his role as Clay Jensen in Thirteen Reasons Why, or as the frontman for the popular indie-rock band, The Wallows. Aside from his popularity in Gen Z culture, he was also known for his long-term (and very cute) relationship with musician Lydia Night — who is also a musician in The Regrettes. The two were first linked in December 2018, but eventually broke things off in December 2022.
The breakup seemed to occur on good terms. On Lydia’s Instagram story confirming the breakup, she wrote, “i’ve seen a lot of speculation and i’d rather just clarify: dylan and i have decided to end our romantic relationship. we love and care about each other very much and that won’t change as we enter a new phase of our lives.” Minnette opted to delete all of his posts with Night, and did not comment publicly on the split. Her Campus reached out to Minnette, but did not hear back at the time of publication.
Who is Dylan Minnette dating?
Six months later, on June 11, Minnette took to Instagram to post a photo with his new girlfriend, Isabella Elei. Taken in a photo booth, the hard launch has big Tumblr vibes — and the response is pretty mixed.
Under the video, comments range from supporting the new couple to criticizing Minnette for (seemingly) moving on too quickly. One user writes, “delete this” while another defends Minnette and Elei, writing, “Girl you need to heal and move on.”
The comments don’t seem like the only place where people are talking about the Minnette, Elei, and Night saga. On June 11, Night took to TikTok to post some pretty cryptic TikToks shortly after Minnette went public with Elei. The TikToks all feature The Regrettes’ cover of “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn, which is an A1 breakup song if you ask me. It could simply be a coincidence, but given the timing of the posts, TikTok isn’t buying it. Her Campus reached out to Night’s team for comment, but did not hear back at the time of publication.
However, many users aren’t supportive of Night’s recent TikToks. One user writes, “Isn’t he allowed to move on tho?” while another fires back, “He is.. but doesn’t mean it won’t hurt when he does?”
All in all, it seems like Minnette is happy in his new relationship. And with The Regrettes moving to mainstream success in the music industry, I’m thinking we should let these people live their lives, and keep those mean comments in the group chat… not in the comments section.
