Thanks are in order to the Shondaland team because Ellen Pompeo has confirmed Grey’s Anatomy won’t be booted from the TGIT lineup any time in the foreseeable future. Shonda Rhimes’ television monopoly started with the series, so we’re not prepared to say farewell and neither is the show’s leading lady.
Although Grey’s has already stretched 13 seasons (and been renewed for a 14th!), there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight, according to Pompeo.
Pompeo spoke to Variety about the longevity of the show. “Shonda [Rhimes] and I have both said that when I’m ready to stop, we’re going to stop the show,” Pompeo said. “The story is about Meredith Grey’s journey and when I’m done, the show will end.”
Since the show started with Meredith Grey’s first day as an intern at Seattle Grace, it’s only right that it should end with Mer taking the final bow.
Pompeo admits she’s considering how much longer she wants to do the show, but the continuation of the series is entirely dependent on the fans. “As long as the audience is still so interested and so moved, it helps me keep going,” she said. “It really does. I’m really doing it, at this point, because the people keep inspiring me to do it. They really do.”
Brb, I’m going to binge the show all weekend. Tbh, is there really anything better?
