New year, new season of The Bachelor. (PSA: College students can now watch the show on Hulu’s ad-supported plan for $1.99 per month, here!) While it’s only been a week since The Bachelorette concluded its season, I’m more than ready to dive into a new season. You can never have too much Bachelor Nation, IMO. If you watched Monday’s premiere, you know that there’s drama on the horizon; let’s just say this season has some characters. From a girl who brought a vibrator to one who refers to herself as “Queen Victoria,” there are definitely going to be some clashing personalities this season. I for one, am looking forward to seeing the inevitable drama to unravel from contestant Kit Keenan, who is literally still in college.
While Bachelor Nation always takes criticism for having a really young group of contestants, Kit is the youngest I’ve ever seen since starting the show. At just 21, she’s eight years younger than Bachelor Matt James. While I’m also 21 and would happily date Matt, IRL I don’t know how realistic it is in practice. I don’t know about Kit, but marriage isn’t high on my to-do list at the moment. Sure, it sounds great, but as a college student I have trouble enough deciding what to make for dinner, never mind deciding on a husband.
While Kit’s job title on the show was “Fashion Entrepreneur,” that role actually goes to her mom, fashion mogul Cynthia Rowley. The New Yorker has been a well-known it girl in the city for a while now thanks to her famous mother. She’s finishing up her senior year at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individual Study, which is fitting considering she launched her own self titled clothing line, KIT (which stands for “keep it together”) back in 2018. She also co-hosts the Ageless podcast with her mom. It’s safe to say this girl has her hands full.
To be completely honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of Kit’s while watching the premiere, but upon reading more about her, I’m willing to give her a second chance. Despite her obvious privilege, Kit cares about more than just clothes and has advocated for numerous social issues including eating disorder awareness, and she even interned for Everytown for Gun Safety.
While 21 seems a little young to be on The Bachelor, I can attest that living in New York City forces you to grow up fast. According to her ABC bio, “Kit hasn’t had a serious relationship since her first love in high school, but that’s only because she hasn’t found a man who can measure up to the level of emotional intelligence she needs. She’s found that most guys she meets don’t match her maturity level, and although she is only 21, she is very ready for a serious commitment. Kit is looking for a man who is genuine, open and honest.” She can also surf in heels, so there’s that.
Kit, good luck with Matt, and let me know how it works out. I may or may not be applying next season if this goes well!
