Alas, the Taylor Swift Eras Tour Ticketmaster saga has continued. On Dec. 12, a pool of exclusive verified fans received an email confirming that they’d have a second shot at scoring tickets to Swift’s upcoming tour. That’s right: After the entire fiasco of Ticketmaster just not working when presale tickets initially went on sale, fans are getting a new opportunity to attend the Eras Tour. So, how and why exactly did this happen, and how do you know if you’ve been chosen for this additional presale opportunity? I’m about to dish.
This all-new “limited time opportunity” from Ticketmaster is to belatedly make up for the monstrosity that was the initial Eras Tour presale. You know, when fans had to either first purchase a Capital One card or become a Ticketmaster verified fan to even be considered for the presale. Fans were quite upset to find out that only a slim number of these individuals would make the cut, but then have to participate in a virtual Hunger Games to try and obtain tickets while the site continued to fail on the official presale day. Yeah, Swifities have been through it, so it’s only right that they’ve been given this second chance to get the tickets they rightfully deserve!
However, it might just be a little bit too late for some fans, because lawsuits against Ticketmaster have already been filed. Yes, you read that right, and no, I’m not joking in the slightest: Swifties are actually suing Ticketmaster over the troubles they experienced trying to obtain Eras Tour presale tickets. I agree that the whole situation must have been frustrating, but a lawsuit is taking the fiasco to a whole new level, which may lead to why Ticketmaster has secured this second opportunity for ticket purchases.
According to Ticketmater’s terms, those selected “were identified as a fan who received a boost during the Verified Fan presale but did not purchase tickets.” Emails went out on Dec. 12, and fans everywhere have been freaking out. The special offer allows these verified fans to request to purchase two tickets to the Eras Tour — heavy on the request (tickets are not guaranteed to those who receive an email). Fans will receive varying invitations to petition for a ticket up until Dec. 23, not to be charged upon initial request.
In Ticketmaster’s email that was sent out to selected participants, they did make sure to note that Swift’s team asked them to offer another chance to purchase presale tickets. After Swift’s reaction to the whole debacle, and I think we all knew that she’d be taking it upon herself to at least try to offer another prospect for Eras Tour presale.
In her Nov. 18 statement about Ticketmastergate, Swift stated, “I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could,” and said that in return, she was hoping “to provide more opportunities for us to all get together and sing these songs.”
Her words rang true, because she did end up urging the platform to create a new way for the dedicated Swifties to get their Eras Tour tickets. All I’m hoping for is that Ticketmaster doesn’t mess this up, because the Swifties will not be having it if so.
