Just A Bunch Of Facts To Know About GloRilla, Like Her Real Name

Topping the BET Awards list for most nominated female artists this year, 23-year-old rapper GloRilla currently holds six nominations, including Best Female Hip Hop Artist, right behind Drake with seven nominations. Rising to prominence after releasing “F.N.F (Let’s Go)” in 2022, GloRilla continues to change the rap game through collaborations with Cardi B, Ciara, and Summer Walker. As GloRilla continues to gain popularity, many fans have been wondering more about the origins and personal life of the rising rap star. 

Inspired by icons like Rihanna and Beyonce, GloRilla originally had rapping as her backup plan. Through participating in her church’s gospel choir, GloRilla originally wanted to pursue a singing career until she lost her voice from smoking. In an interview with Breakfast Media, she said, “I used to want to be a singer, and I lost my voice because I started smoking in high school, so I couldn’t sing no more. So, I started rapping.” Despite no longer singing gospel, GloRilla hopes to release a gospel song one day, as her music passion came from church.

On Oct. 8, 2022, GloRilla revealed her real name to be Gloria Hallelujah Woods. Surprised that many did not know her middle name, Glorilla replied in a tweet saying, “Why y’all acting like Ian been told y’all my middle name hallelujah? Dats why I’m so blessed & my p*ssy so good duhhhhhh !!!! Common damn sense.” Originally, she planned to release music under her alias “Big Glo,” but her cousin inspired her to go by the stage name of GloRilla.

Where Is GloRilla From?

Born on July 28, 1999, GloRilla grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. Homeschooled until fifth grade, GloRilla went on to complete her education at Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School, where she recently surprised her alma mater with a school performance and a $25,000 donation. GloRilla revealed in an August 2022 interview with REVOLT’s Big Facts that she grew up in a large family, and was the eighth child out of her 10 siblings.

Before becoming the rapper and hip-hop artist her fans know today, GloRilla worked at Checkers. On Nov. 29, 2022, TikTok user @primeape09 posted a video of GloRilla taking orders. When the video went viral, GloRilla responded to her fans on Instagram, saying her success did not come overnight, and she never gave up on pursuing her dreams.
