As far as pop culture goes, GIFs are totally reigning supreme right now. In fact, “GIF” was named the 2012 Word of the Year by The Oxford Dictionary. NY Daily News reports that GIF claimed it’s spot on top by beating out this year’s other hottest word, YOLO.
Even though the .gif extension has been around for a while, it only entered mainstream social lingo recently, when it was popularized by websites like whatshouldwecallme and buzzfeed. But really, what’s not to love about a good GIF? A few images pushed together like a little flipbook can so perfectly capture a mood – check out the way Honey Boo Boo struting her stuff in a GIF allows her to exudes confidence in a way that a JPEG just never could.
To celebrate GIF’s total take over of pop culture, E! Online put together a party of celebratory GIFs. Check it out, and happy GIF-ing!
