Gwen Stefani kicked off her Las Vegas Residency by pouring her heart out to Rihanna’s “Umbrella.”
Although Rihanna’s work is a far cry from what Gwen is used to, she made the cover her own with a bounce of alt-rock flair. Her vocal performance was accompanied by a storm-like atmosphere, where her background dancers and their umbrellas shined in moody blue and purple lighting. Perhaps what was most exciting about the performance (and the concert location) is Gwen’s intimacy with the audience—she’s able to move back and forth to different viewer locations, enabling her to constantly interact with the audience.
The Rihanna cover wasn’t the only one in her performance, as she also took breaks in her setlist to brag her iconic vocals on “It’s My Life” by Talk Talk and Blondie’s “The Tide Is High.”
Her full set includes all of our favorite tunes, including many of No Doubt’s hits, which is sure to make the crowd go B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
Gwen Stefani’s Las Vegas residency is her biggest music move since her solo album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which was released back in 2016.
The 25-concert series takes place at the Zappos Theater and has been spread into three legs: the first runs until July 21, the second from December 27-31, and the last runs from February 27, 2019 to March 16, 2019.
It’s not too late to get your tickets now for what might be the ultimate sweet escape.
