The Best Horror TV Shows To Watch During Spooky Season

Pull out those sweaters from the back of your closet, light up that candle that’s been on your desk for ages, and warm up with a PSL because spooky season is back, baby! Nothing can get you in that cozy, comforting, and slightly on-edge Halloween mood like a scary TV show (or movie!) can. Whether you’re into supernatural horror, psychological thrillers, or gory slashers, grab the remote (or laptop) and be prepared to have the blanket right under your eyes with the best horror TV shows to watch right now and all through the Halloween 2022 season on Netflix and Prime Video.

Black Mirror (Netflix)

Ever since its debut, Black Mirror has been warping reality with chilling interpretations of technology’s role in society. Not all of its episodes are overtly scary, but the implication that some of the show’s plotlines are not that far off from tomorrow brings that same creepy feeling. The scariest horror episodes are “Black Museum” (Season 4, Episode 6), “Hated in the Nation” (Season 3, Episode 6), “Playtest” (Season 3, Episode 2), and “White Christmas” (Special).

stranger Things (Netflix)

If you’re like me and still haven’t watched the new season (here’s a playlist for when you eventually decide to do so), now’s the time to catch up! El, Mike, Will, Hopper, Joyce, and more return for another season of supernatural mystery, gruesome death, and someone named Vecna…

Love, death, & Robots (Netflix)

This show, like Black Mirror, is an anthology of standalone episodes, all of which either deal with love, death, or robots. Episodes aren’t exclusively horror, but many of the highest-rated ones are on the scarier side. The top horror episodes are “Beyond The Aquila Rift” (Season 1, Episode 7), “The Witness” (Season 1, Episode 3), “In Vaulted Halls Entombed” (Season 3, Episode 8), and “Bad Travelling” (Season 3, Episode 2).

All Of Us Are Dead (Netflix)

All of Us Are Dead is a Korean horror TV show revolving around a zombie outbreak that starts due to a science experiment gone wrong. Mostly taking place at a high school, students are forced to either defend themselves or become infected. The first season is complete, and it has been confirmed that the series has been renewed for a second season.

The Twilight Zone (Amazon Prime Video)

The Twilight Zone’s timeless legacy and thrilling storylines make it an easy choice for this list. The show’s genres range from science fiction to mystery to horror, and conclude with twists that usually have the viewer’s head spinning. Horror episodes that are highly recommended include “Nightmare At 20,000 Feet” (Season 5, Episode 3), “Death Ship” (Season 4, Episode 6), “The Masks” (Season 5, Episode 25), “Ninety Years Without Slumbering” (Season 5, Episode 12), and “The Little People” (Season 3, Episode 28).

The Haunting of Bly Manor (Netflix)

This show follows the classic deciding-to-become-an-au-pair-and-oops!-the-house-is-haunted trope. Toeing the line between supernatural and horror, this series masterfully intertwines ghost stories and a creepy setting to tell a chilling narrative. Nominated for “Best Horror Series” at the 1st Critics’ Choice Super Awards, The Haunting of Bly Manor is definitely a great watch for the spooky season.

Goosebumps (Netflix)

You’re probably familiar with the iconic Goosebumps novels by R.L. Stine, which were known for haunting the shelves of middle school libraries across the country. If you’re in the mood for a throwback thriller, the TV show might be for you. Filmed in the late ’90s and based on the books, this show will transport you back to a similar time. And who knows? Maybe the eerie storylines will scare you more than you think…

Scream: Resurrection (Amazon Prime Video)

Based on the classic slasher movies of the same name, Scream: Resurrection follows a group of teenagers and their chilling interactions with Ghostface. Emma, the protagonist, finds herself in the center of her town’s dark secrets and avoiding death. Want a thrilling show with a fast-moving plot? This is the one for you.

Bates Motel (Amazon Prime Video)

The unofficial prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, this show follows an alternative storyline in a different setting in the movie. The main characters are Norman Bates and his mother Norma, and the series deals with their struggles as Norman risks harming himself and others. With five seasons and a handful of awards, this show fits well into the psychological horror category.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix)

If you’re a fan of the theory of Riverdale (as in, a dark take on a fun comic series), then you’ll like the idea behind Chilling Adventure of Sabrina. Based on the comic series Sabrina the Teenage Witch, this series takes a scarier approach to Sabrina’s struggles as a user of magic. In this dark fantasy, Sabrina must take on the forces of evil and protect the world.
