How to Make a Katniss Everdeen Halloween Costume

Who says you have to sport a grungy, weeks-without-a-shower-fighting-for-your-life look to dress up as Katniss Everdeen? This Halloween, channel your inner heroine while looking courageous AND cute. There is a way to make sporty look sassy, and Pop Campus is going to help you do it.

A Katniss costume is the way to go if you’re not looking to dish out cash this Halloween. To execute this outfit, you’re looking for a lot of neutrals. In the movie, Katniss wears army green pants while she’s participating in the Hunger Games. If you want to spice things up, opt for a cute green skirt or dark green shorts. High-waisted shorts or scalloped shorts would go great with a brown belt. You can be creative with your choice of bottoms as long as you stick to an army green color scheme.

Another staple in the Everdeen wardrobe is a pair of dark brown boots. If you’re looking to dress up your costume for a party or just for fun, try a heeled bootie or extra tall boots to add some flavor.

For the top of the costume, you can wear a brown or black jacket. A leather jacket would be a great addition if you’ve got one. If you wear a black jacket, make sure to incorporate a hood to authenticate your costume.

The accessories in this costume are key. If you’ve got time, run over to your local Halloween superstore and pick up a bow and arrow set. Another alternative is to buy just a few arrows and stick them in your purse to carry as a cute prop. Get your hands on a Mockingjay pin, it will be a dead giveaway that you’re dressed as Katniss.

For a few finishing touches, scrunch or wave your hair for a more natural look and braid it on the side of your head. You can keep your makeup minimal or create a smoky eye and bronzed look to present a sultrier side to your Katniss creation.
