How to Make a Mean Girls Costume for Halloween

The Mean Girls movie is bursting with potential Halloween costumes (and we’re not just talking about throwing on a pair of ears and calling yourself a mouse). If you’re looking for a crowd-pleaser and a costume that will ensure you hear every quote from Mean Girls throughout the night,  then dust off your micro-minis and prepare to channel your inner-biatch. We’ve got the tips to execute Cady Heron, Regina George and the rest of the army of skanks.

Cady Heron
There are a few ways you can dress as Cady Heron, it’s pronounced like Katie. If you’re going for the pre-plastic look, an oversized pink polo would be a funny option. For a more classic Cady look, wear a red Henley quarter-sleeved shirt and dark-flared jeans like Lindsay Lohan wears on the cover of the movie. If you’ve got an old letterman jacket, another great way to execute Cady Heron is to wear it with a plastic crown and a medal.

Regina George
Evil takes a human form in Regina George. If you’re up for the challenge of dressing as the queen bee, there are a few essentials you’ll need to get the costume right. Get a white tank top and write or press on red letters that say, “a little bit dramatic” or buy an authentic Regina tank here. For Regina’s most recognizable outfit, wear a pink cardigan over the tank and either a pleather black mini skirt or a pleated pink mini skirt, she is seen wearing both. Another great costume idea to dress as Regina is to wear a dress of your choice and construct a neck brace adorned with little flowers like the one she wears at Prom. Heels are a must for any of the plastics’ outfits. Straighten your hair or get a blonde wig, add some pink lip gloss and you’re ready to rule the school.

Gretchen Weiners
She’s totally rich because her dad invented Toaster Streudels. To dress up as Gretchen for Halloween, you’ll need a brown, plaid mini skirt and and a tiny pink sweater to look super fetch. Make sure to tease your curls to get Gretchen’s famous tresses. As an awesome accessory, have one of the mean girls carry a replica of the burn book. Decorate a pink scrapbook with collaged letters and a ton of sharpie scribbles.

Karen Smith
She is one of the dumbest girls you will ever meet. Karen’s most infamous costume in Mean Girls is probably the mouse Halloween costume, but if you’re looking for a more creative alternative, dress as Karen going to Prom and stick a backward K on your chest with rhinestones. Karen’s classic outfit is a hot pink mini skirt and a light pink sweater with a purple bow on the top.

Janis Ian
If you’re looking to spice up your Mean Girls group costume, have someone dress as Janis Ian, the notorious goth from the movie. You’ll need a lot of layers of dark colors. Janis is probably most
recognizable for her jet-black hair and piercings. Add a bunch of clips to the front of your hair, wear heavy eye makeup and put on your most apathetic smile.

Extras
If you’ve got a bigger group or just need a last minute costume idea, get matching shirts and write or iron-on letters that say, “personally victimized by Regina George.” It’s a funny costume that takes almost no effort at all.
