Alright, Swifties, don’t freak out. With Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) coming out in October, fans are in the midst of Easter egg season. And, with the 1989 vault puzzles now live on Google, theories surrounding the new album are bigger than ever. But, how do you actually access the 1989 Google vault puzzles? Well, allow me to lead the way.
ICYMI, Taylor Swift is releasing her highly-anticipated re-record of 1989 on Oct. 27, 2023. But, it wouldn’t be a Taylor Swift album drop if there weren’t a ton of mystique, Easter Eggs, and theories surrounding the new release. On Sept. 19, Taylor Swift teamed up with Google to give her fans a taste of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and an opportunity to find out some clues about the album’s new vault tracks. Fans need to solve 33 million vault puzzles (yes, you read that right) and then the vault track list will be released.
Now, if you’re not a Swiftie, and have no clue what a “vault track” is, I’ll give you the rundown. Essentially, with every Taylor Swift re-record, she releases a series of tracks that are “From The Vault.” These are songs that were usually written during the time of the original release, but (for some reason) didn’t make it on the album. A lot of times, these tracks come with a feature (think “Nothing New” with Phoebe Bridgers) — so the Google word puzzles could also point to prospective features. (Nicki, we’re looking at you, here.)
