Celebrity Smackdown! The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominees were released on Tuesday, July 21, however it seems the entertainment industry isn’t quite celebrating. Moments after the nomination list was made public, Twitter erupted into a series of celebrity feuds. In case you haven’t had time in the last 24 hours to stalk your favorite celebs’ social media feeds to see who’s weighing in on the drama, we’ve got you covered. Here’s what happened:
Nicki Minaj expressed disappointment that her videos “Anaconda” and “Feeling Myself” weren’t nominated for Video of the Year, the shows biggest award. She took her frustrations, and feelings of racism and body-shaming from MTV, to Twitter and Instagram.
Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations.Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or…?
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
In defense of the “Anaconda” video’s unique choreography and cultual impact, Minaj referenced a viral parody that Ellen Degeneres did of the video earlier this year.
Ellen did her own anaconda video and did the #choreo lol. Remember her doing that kick. Even mtv did a post on the choreo @MTV remember?
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Ironically, I’m shooting a VIDEO today
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Oh but trust me. I’ll be on that stage to collect my awards for vid of the year. Feeling Myself & Anaconda.

Taylor Swift, who is nominated for nine VMAs this year, responded to the rapper, letting her know that she felt that Minaj’s tweets “pit women against each other.” Although Swift’s tweets have since been deleted, they were up long enough to get a response from the “Super Bass” performer and millions of fans watching the drama play out.
@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..
— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) July 21, 2015
Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on.
— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) July 21, 2015
I’m not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it. https://t.co/2xOvJzBXJX
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
I’m so glad u guys get to see how this stuff works. Taylor took her music off spotify and was applauded. We launched Tidal & were dragged.

Prior to the feud, rapper Azealia Banks was also vocal about her lack of nominations at this years show.
All my videos deserve VMas and my album deserves a Grammy but I’ll never get one because America doesn’t like opinionated black women.

Social media queen Kim Kardashian accidentally added fuel to the fire when she captioned an Instagram post from her Vogue Spain shoot “Imma let you finish but…” Fans immediately responded with speculation that the caption was referencing her husband Kanye West’s famous interruption of Taylor’s acceptance speech in 2009, when she won Best Female Video. Kardashian quickly clarified that she was unaware of the feud and just thought the caption was fitting and, as she perfectly put it, “#ironic”
Wait wait I’m in Paris it’s the middle of the night & I’m posting my Vogue Spain pics not having a clue what’s going on in the music world
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) July 21, 2015
I’m not trying to shade anyone! That’s not my style! I just thought that caption was perfect for that pic! Changing the caption now! #ironic
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) July 21, 2015
Swift went social-media silent for the remainder of the night, and Minaj, who received three VMA noms this year (two for “Anaconda” and one for her “Bang Bang” collab with Ariana Grande and Jessie J), soon did the same after retweeting a few supportive fans. However, the evening’s drama didn’t come close to stopping there. Nicki’s boyfriend Meek Mill went on a Twitter rant, calling out fellow rapper Drake for allegedly failing to write his own lyrics. While we’re unclear what set him off, he had a lot to say about the industry. Here are just a few of his thoughts:
Stop comparing drake to me too…. He don’t write his own raps! That’s why he ain’t tweet my album because we found out!
— Meek Mill (@MeekMill) July 22, 2015
He ain’t even write that verse on my album and if I woulda knew I woulda took it off my album….. I don’t trick my fans! Lol
— Meek Mill (@MeekMill) July 22, 2015
When I get mad I just start saying what’s bothering me….. I can’t not tell the truth! Lol
— Meek Mill (@MeekMill) July 22, 2015
While Drake has yet to respond, celebrities (and fans) (and everyone else) are waiting to see how the rapper responds
i am not leaving this computer until drake wakes up

While others, like Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran, just want to get in on the action.
Jus woke up. Did shit jus get real?!?!
