It’s the season of holiday shopping, and it seems like every other day is a new day to celebrate the best deals around. You know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and you might have heard of Small Business Saturday (support local businesses!), but you might not have realized that the holidays extend further into the week. We’re here to let you know about Giving Tuesday – which The Huffington Post calls “Black Friday and Cyber Monday’s more generous relative!”
It’s okay if you haven’t heard of it until now, because The Nonprofit Times reports that it’s totally new! “This is the first year that a group of retailers and nonprofits and other folks in social media have pulled together to encourage the public to give,” Anne Marie Borrego, the director of media relations for the American Red Cross (ARC) and a founding partner of Giving Tuesday, told The Nonprofit Times.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved, check out GivingTuesday.org, or check out @GivingTues on Twitter for ideas. If you want to knock out some holiday shopping do some charitable giving at the same time, think about donating to a worthy organization in a friend’s name for the holidays!
Happy Giving Tuesday, collegiettes!”
