I’m so sorry for the person I’m about to become in this article. With summer finally coming to an end, we’re officially entering my favorite season: fall. Sure, I’m super excited about the l fact that fall has the best weather, best outfit pieces: oh, and of course, the best movies. As we near the end of 2023, which had a blockbuster summer filled with Barbenheimer outfits, ninja turtles and female-dominated fight clubs, let’s talk about a film that will definitely be my next personality for the remainder of this year: Saltburn. Everyone, strap yourselves in because you’re in for an adventure.
Written and directed by Oscar winner Emerald Fennell, Saltburn follows Oliver Quick, an outsider at Oxford University (played by Barry Keoghan) who becomes infatuated with an aristocratic and eccentric classmate, Felix Catton (played by Jacob Elordi) as they spend a summer together at Saltburn, Catton’s family estate in London. Set in 2006, Saltburn promises to give fans a wickedly good time while potentially scaring the daylights out of them. And with a cast like this, viewers are about to be served something special. The first trailer introduces us to the large estate of Saltburn, with gorgeous costumes, stunning cinematography and a soundtrack that is for sure to be played constantly on my Spotify account. Fennell has crafted a film that will make audiences find themselves digging deeper into this world of excess and gold. Needless to say, the first reactions to the Saltburn trailer can guarantee this is going to be a must-see film.
Saltburn is set to open during the 67th BFI London Festival on Oct. 4, but for those who can’t attend BFI, the film will be released in theaters on Nov. 24.
With the first trailer having just dropped, film fans are going crazy on X (or should I say Twitter) to dissect what the film is about, while simultaneously thirsting over the stars of Saltburn (rightfully so) — especially Jacob Elordi.
If there’s one thing fans love, it’s Jacob Elordi. Immediately after the teaser trailer was released, many flooded X to share their reactions to Elordi’s appearance in Saltburn. While some can’t get over how good the Euphoria star looks in the film, others are just going crazy over his eyebrow piercing.
Director Emerald Fennell stated that even though the Saltburn takes place at a wealthy estate, the time period was incredibly important to the story. Fennell explains, “There’s nothing like a Livestrong bracelet and a ‘carpe diem’ tattoo and an eyebrow star and a boot-cut jean that deglamorizes things,” signaling the reason why Elordi’s character has a piercing.
Either way, the audience is already obsessed and can’t stop talking about it.
