If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, then you know that the series’ author, J.K. Rowling, has taken to connecting with her fans via Twitter to talk about the characters, Wizarding World, and life in general. She’s known for caring deeply for her readers and replying with well-thought-out, kind words of wisdom.
Rowling’s most recent heartfelt conversation with a fan occured on Monday. A teenage girl reached out to the author asking for help dealing with the not-so-fantastic beast that is depression. This is a topic that Rowling is familiar with, as she, too, struggled with depression at one point in her life. That experience might be why she’s so dedicated to connecting with her fans about the subject.
@jk_rowling could you please teach me how to scare the dementors that have been living under my bed? i’m tired of being sad all the time

Rowling responded immediately, advising the young girl to ask for help, as well as offering a “big hug.”
They’re bothering a unique, valuable human being who deserves happiness. Ask for help. Don’t fight alone. Big hug. https://t.co/V8ocAHN1Ll

Naturally, the act of getting a sweet response from such a lovely lady was enough to boost the fan’s mood, which is a great start. We love that Rowling is still using her fame and followers for good, making sure to help people out when she knows from experience that they need it most. Thank you, J.K. Rowling!
