I’m from Pittsburgh, and that means two things: I loved Mac Miller before it was cool, and I’m a massive fan of the show Dance Moms. So, you could only imagine my excitement when the trailer for the Dance Moms reunion dropped on March 6 — and I’m not alone in that. The internet is absolutely bursting with excitement to see the OGs back together again. Well, most of them. Apparently, the internet thinks that JoJo Siwa shaded Nia, Kenzie, and Maddie for their absence at the reunion. And they are not having it.
While Dance Moms premiered in 2011, the hype for the show is bigger than ever. (My best friends are literally throwing me a Dance Moms-themed 24th birthday party.) The internet quite literally broke when the Dance Moms girls posted a photo on each of their accounts announcing the reunion. I, and many others, were quick to notice a few key players missing, though. Maddie and Kenzie Zeigler, as well as Nia Sioux, were notably absent in the photo. And, with the new trailer here, it’s pretty much confirmed that the three won’t be at the reunion special.
Now, I completely understand why Nia, Kenzie, and Maddie decided not to come back to the show. Kenzie and Maddie were subject to so much manipulation throughout Dance Moms, and I cannot even get started on the blatant racism Nia faced from other moms, teachers, and even viewers of the show. But, according to a brief clip in the trailer, it appears that JoJo doesn’t entirely agree with the girls’ decision not to return.
In the trailer, JoJo is shown saying, “Them not being here is kind of like, ‘let me erase my past, pretend it never happened, shove it down the drain.’ When it’s like, that’s why you are who you are.” And while JoJo didn’t outwardly mention the girls by name, the internet is not here for the rumored shade.
JoJo’s support of Dance Moms is nothing new. In the past, JoJo has only spoken highly of Abby Lee Miller and Dance Moms as a whole, despite her treatment on the show.
Listen, we don’t know if JoJo was actually shading Nia, Maddie, and Kenzie. Clips are constantly taken out of context, so if you’re asking me, I don’t think it’s necessary to be sending hate JoJo’s way, especially before the reunion actually airs. I guess we’ll have to wait until May 1 to get all of the tea — and no, don’t ask me to do anything that day. I have plans.
