It’s official! Keke Palmer is officially a mom. On Feb. 27, Palmer posted a series of photos to Instagram announcing the birth of her first child with partner Darius Jackson. The couple welcomed a baby boy named Leodis Andrellton Jackson.
Palmer’s took to Instagram to update her 12 million fans on her son’s arrival in a caption, stating, “Born during Black History Month, with a name to match! LEODIS ANDRELLTON JACKSON, welcome to the world baby Leo.”
The caption also included a sweet detail about the father of her new baby and the relationship they share together. Palmer wrote, “Darius always made me playlists when we first started dating, ‘Someone’ by El Debarge was a favorite. We became each other’s someone and made a someone, look at God!”
Palmer’s Instagram post also included a selfie of her and Jackson in the car, followed by a video of Palmer singing along to the music as she showed her son’s car seat as the new family drove home from the hospital.
Jackson also posted the news to his Instagram, showing photos of baby Leodis all swaddled up in contentment with the caption, “Leodis Andrellton Jackson. February 25th, 2023. 3:28 PM.”
The unique name, Leodis, comes from Latin version of the Celtic name Loidis, which translates into people “who live by the fast-flowing river.” The nickname Leo also bears a strong meaning, translating to being “lionhearted” or brave.
Palmer announced her pregnancy while hosting Saturday Night Live back in December 2022 in her opening monologue. “There’s some rumors going around. People have been in my comments saying, ‘Keke’s having a baby, Keke’s pregnant.’ And I want to set the record straight — I am,” she said. The live audience cheered in excitement as Palmer unbuttoned her suit jacket, debuting her baby bump. “I gotta say, though, it is bad when people on the internet spread rumors about you, but it’s even worse when they’re correct,” she concluded.
Many friends and celebrities showed love and support for Palmer in her flooded comments section including Halle Bailey, Ashley Graham, Jhené Aiko, Big Sean, Viola Davis, and Jimmy Fallon.
Though fans loved Palmer’s pregnancy announcement and content, they’re thrilled to watch her journey as a mom and to see more photos of her sweet son. Congratulations, Keke!
