Attention, Twi-Hards! We’ve seen Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan, as Snow White, and even as Joan Jett, but we’ve never seen her like this: as a homewrecker (okay, except for that one time in Adventureland).
Rumors began flying yesterday when a photo of Stewart cozying up to a man who wasn’t her sweetheart, Robert Pattinson, splashed across the Internet courtesy of Us Weekly. The magazine’s cover features a snapshot of a dark-haired man with his arms wrapped around Stewart’s waist and his face buried in her hair, and by the looks of it, Stewart is really feeling the embrace.
And, for the question of the day: just who is that mystery man dashing the dreams of Twilight fans everywhere? According to PerezHilton.com, he’s none other than Rupert Sanders, director of Stewart’s summer blockbuster, Snow White and the Huntsman, and – for the kicker – married man and father of two.
41-year-old Sanders’ wife, 33-year-old model Liberty Ross, has yet to officially confirm or deny the reports, but tweeted the following grim message: “sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” If that isn’t a wink and a nudge to the pop culture presses, we don’t know what is.
According to People, a source close to the couple insists that “Kristen is absolutely devastated,” going on to say that the fling “was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment. [Stewart] wasn’t having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn’t have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She’s a good person who just made a bad choice.”
There’s been no word yet from Stewart about the rumors (or about the pictures which, as we all know, are worth a thousand words… so she’d better get talking if she plans to deny it). Pattinson has also remained silent, and is likely doing what he does best: brooding.
How will the infidelity affect the release and press tour of Breaking Dawn – Part 2? While we can’t predict the future (we’re not Alice, or anything), we have to admit that we wouldn’t mind a KStew-RPatz split if it meant that Jacob could finally get his day with Bella through a Kristen Stewart-Taylor Lautner tryst… just saying.

Kristen Stewart is giving the pop culture blogosphere no shortage of juicy material today! Only a day after the news of her alleged affair leaked to the Internet, Stewart has admitted to the infidelity and publicly apologized by way of a statement released to People. Shockingly emotional for a girl who usually prefers to scowl for the camera, Stewart says:
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
Rupert Sanders has also broken his silence in a statement to People:
“I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
Since we’ve recently learned that Sander’s wife, Liberty Ross, actually played Stewart’s mother in Snow White and the Huntsman, we’re not so sure that their marriage will be so easily fixed. Talk about an uncomfortable work environment!
