La La Land snagged seven Golden Globes last weekend, including Best Actor and Best Actress statues for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. But that could’ve turned out much differently if the film had been made with the originally intended cast.
Refinery29 reports that Emma Watson was initially slated to play Mia, Stone’s aspiring actress character, and Miles Teller was cast as Sebastian, the jazz pianist portrayed by Gosling.
In an interview with Uproxx, La La Land’s director Damien Chazelle said, “The casting of this movie during the six years it took to get made went through lots of permutations, and it’s true there was a moment where Emma Watson and Miles Teller were doing it. And neither of those casting things wound up lasting or working out.”
Even if Teller and Watson would have killed it as Mia and Sebastian, it’s hard not to love seeing Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone back on-screen together. If you’ve seen the movie you know they are cute af and set to win all kinds of acting accolades this awards season, so it looks like everything worked out as it should!Â
