Everyone’s favorite OG mean girl is back in the new musical adaptation of the iconic film. On Jan. 12, the new Mean Girls movie dropped, and fans were freaking out when they caught sight of one of the leading ladies from the 2004 film. Yeah, that’s right, Lindsay Lohan makes a guest appearance in the Mean Girls musical movie. Spoiler Warning: Spoilers for the Mean Girls musical movie follow.
We’re just as excited as you are. This time, she took on a completely different role. Many of us fell in love with Lohan when she played the iconic role of Cady Heron in the OG movie.
Angourie Rice takes over the role of Cady in the new adaptation, but Lohan still makes a cameo, this time at the Mathletes state competition. She takes over as the MC of the event and even references the OG film. When it came down to the tie-breaker, Lohan jokingly said, “This has only happened once before,” of course referring to when she had to break the tie in the first Mean Girls movie.Â
The scene was pretty similar to the competition in the first movie. The schools tie and need to answer one final question to win the competition. Cady is up against a girl from the other team. She doesn’t have the same inner monologue that she does in the OG film.Â
Instead, she verbally tells the other girl they’re not up against each other. She also doesn’t point out any flaws about the girl like Lohan did in the first movie. Cady does, however, remember what she missed on the board when she was daydreaming about Aaron in class. Then, of course, she says the famous line, “The limit does not exist” and wins the competition for North Shore High School. This was a great way to pay homage to the 2004 film while still having a new perspective on the scene.Â
Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith), Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners), and Lohan all starred in Walmart commercials referencing the OG film during the 2023 holiday season. This had fans speculating that they might be in the Mean Girls musical movie.
Unfortunately, none of the OG plastics are in the new movie. However, ReneĂ© Rapp reprises her role as Regina George from the Broadway musical.Â
So, in a way, an old Regina still represents this new era. Lohan coming back to the Mean Girls universe is honestly so “grool.” It was even better that fans were surprised in theaters by her appearance.
This new adaptation of the film is honestly so iconic and Lohan being in it is just the icing on the cake.
