Season 3 of Netflix’s Love is Blind has already been a whirlwind — between Bartise being uber-toxic, Alexa asking Brennon for a prenup (yikes), and Raven freaking out over her Keurig machine not working (yes, that really did happen), a lot’s been going down. But the most recent development in the Love is Blind universe has been none other than a love square — that is, a love triangle, but like, with four people. Essentially, there’s been trouble in the water with two of the couples — Colleen and Matt, and Zanab and Cole — and the whole thing has become a really messy love square. Spoiler alert: Spoilers for Love Is Blind Season 3 follow.
The whole love square situation started at the pool when Cole called Colleen “cute.”
Basically, things began to simmer when Cole called Colleen “cute,” approaching her at the pool and telling her he was physically attracted to her in Episode 5. He swam up to her, asking him how her relationship was with Matt, and then asked, “You’re really ready to get married right now?” He continued to plant seeds of doubt, asking, “Do you have any, like, reservations or…? What he’s been telling me is everything’s perfect. But really? Is everything really perfect? C’mon.”
Colleen insisted she and Matt were doing well and then asked Cole how he was doing with Zanab, to which he candidly replied, “We have an emotional connection. She’s an amazing girl. But, like, we do have a physical attraction, but it’s not like… She wouldn’t have been the first girl I picked if I was just basing this fully on physical.” Colleen then asked who Cole’s type was, to which he said (a bit too quickly, might I add), “You.”
Colleen smiled, then said, “For sure, like, you would be the person who I would go to in a bar … in the real world.” Cole grinned, saying, “I’d approach you in a bar too, by the way.” Tea…
To the camera privately, Cole said, “Colleen is stressful for me because I like her. Colleen is gorgeous, and I would definitely date her.” He continued, “Zanab’s the girl I emotionally connect with, Colleen’s the girl I physically connect with… Where’s the in-between, you know?”
Matt saw Cole and Colleen flirting at the pool and walked out on Colleen later that night.
Zanab later talked to Cole about how she was feeling about their relationship, and how Cole rated her a “nine out of 10,” which was less than what he rated Colleen and Raven (major yikes).
Matt also broached the subject with Colleen after spotting her chatting with Cole at the pool, which is where things really escalated. “All I said was, ‘You’re a cute guy, and in the real world, sure,’” Colleen tried to tell Matt. The two continued to argue over the situation, with Matt asking her what “the real world” even meant (TBH, I’m wondering the same thing — is this a virtual reality or something?).
Colleen tearily continued, “I have so much respect for you, and… I didn’t know what to say during that conversation.” Matt said, “It was very easy, just shut it down. It takes two words. ‘That’s my man.’ Three words.” (I’m sorry, but that did make me LOL.) Matt continued, “We have four weeks to get married, and for you to tell people that they’re attractive people, as an engaged woman… He’s a cute guy in the real world. Whatever happens, happens, right? So f*ck me, right?” The conversation ended with Colleen crying, and Matt walked out, asking for the crew to “take his mic off” and that he’s “done.”
But at the start of Episode 6, it seems like things between the two seemed to be… all good? “This morning we were able to communicate through what had happened, and [we] have a lot better understanding for it and realize that it wasn’t as big of an issue as we were making it out to be,” Matt said. OK, but is this fishy for anyone else?
But maybe the whole situation isn’t *actually* resolved.
While things seemed to be all good at that point, the whole love square situation really reached a head at the end of Episode 7. During another cast party, Zanab and Colleen finally talked about what went down, and Zanab then talked to Matt. “So this is what I heard. I heard that he went up to her, and said that [she was his] type, and she was a cute girl. In response, Colleen then said that he was a cute guy, and in the real world, whatever happens, happens.” Some things seem to be getting lost in translation…
Matt continued to hype Zanab up, saying, “Don’t settle for less. You’re a beautiful woman.” Aww. Zanab later went to talk with Cole, and the whole thing was… a lot (and honestly, didn’t make a lot of sense — the two had had a bit to drink). “You and I have talked about this extensively. Colleen and I told each other how we feel about each other physically, but in the pods, it was very clear that emotionally, we had zero connection whatsoever.” He continued, “I thought we were past that.”
Zanab finished the conversation, saying she was “on team Matt.” “Go marry Matt,” Cole said, to which Zanab replied, “Go marry Colleen.” “So we should just swap fiancés,” Cole said. Um… Yikes.
Will these two couples end up fiancé swapping, or will both relationships just burn out? And more importantly, will they say “I do” at the altar? We’ll have to wait to find out when the next two episodes of Love is Blind premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
