Megan Thee Stallion is in her IDGAF era and her new song definitely proves it. The rapper dropped her new single “Hiss” on Jan. 26 and just like her candid single “Cobra,” she’s getting a few things off her chest. As someone who’s known for her scathing verbal takedowns, Megan doesn’t hold back as she calls out those who don’t serve a purpose in her life. The powerful lyrics explain what Megan has been feeling lately as she lets her authenticity shine through.
Meg’s general message in “Hiss” is for her haters to back off. On Jan. 26, Stallion spoke in an exclusive interview for the radio show The Breakfast Club, where she discussed the broader message she wished to convey in the track. She compared haters to snakes, implying that they “sway” and creep up on you. She wants the hypothetical snake to know, “I hear you, I see you” and to “get up off” her. So, who is she referring to? Fans and Twitter users believe Stallion was dissing Pardison Fontaine, Tory Lanez, Drake, and even Nicki Minaj in her lyrics.
Pardison
Stallion comes off strong in the beginning verses of the track, where she begins by clapping back at her ex-boyfriend and rapper Pardison Fontaine. To bring you up to speed, when Meg released “Cobra” in November 2023, she alluded to Pardison cheating on her. This resulted in Pardison and Meg having their own back-and-forth internet drama, with Pardison even creating his own diss track titled “Thee Person” in which he claimed to have been cheated on.
Since then, Stallion has clapped back in her âHissâ lyrics: âHe can’t move on, can’t let it go (Let it go)/ he hooked, nose full of that Tina Snowâ and âSay he a player, but he in his feelings (What?)/Bet I won’t give up the p*ssy again/ Sh*t, should’ve gave it to his friend (Ayy).â
Drake
In âHissâ, Stallion makes a subtle reference to Drake, saying, “These n*ggas hate on BBLs and be walkin’ ’round with the same scars (Ah)/ Real curvy, no edgin’, n*ggas fight to get in my section (My section).” These lyrics sound like they’re in response to Drake reportedly referencing Stallion in his song with 21 Savage “Circo Loco.” In the song, Drake referred to the infamous incident in 2020 when Stallion was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez following a celebration at Kylie Jenner’s home. He raps: “This b*tch lie âbout gettinâ shots, but she still a stallion.â
The lyrics instantly led fans to believe Drake was referencing the incident. In a series of tweets shortly after the song’s release, Stallion slammed the rapper for addressing her in his song, especially on such a serious matter. Now, in “Hiss,” it seems Stallion has decided to take digs at the rapper for allegedly undergoing body sculpting treatments. Drake shared an Instagram story of himself shirtless in April 2023, prompting some internet users to speculate that he had undergone cosmetic surgery.
Tory Lanez
Toward the end of the song and into the outro, Stallion specifically addresses Tory Lanez fans who continue to support the rapper despite his 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting incident. Megan raps:Â âOn the internet typin’ this sh*t to me? Write him a letter or somethin’â and âSay, b*tch-ass n*gga, don’t type me nothin’ else, don’t write me nothin’ else/ Download JPay since y’all n*ggas got so much to say/Or schedule a conjugal visit or somethin’, hahaha.â Jpay is a financial service provider for individuals in prison, allowing loved ones to send money transfers, emails, tablets, music, education, and much more.
Highlighting Jpay, sending letters, and making conjugal visits in the lyrics calls on Tory Lanez fans to focus on him rather than continuing to resent her for what happened.
Nicki MinajÂ
Now for the lyric that triggered an viral internet feud. Meg also threw some not-so-discrete shade at Nicki Minaj. Well, not directly at her but rather at the fellow rapperâs husband, Kenneth Petty. Megan raps: “These h*es don’t be mad at Megan, these h*es mad at Megan’s Law,” referring to the statue mandated in all states that gives the public information about registered sex offenders. Oof.
One thing is certain, Megan Thee Stallion had a lot to say in the most iconic way possible.
