This week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their decision to âtake a step back as âseniorâ members of the Royal family.â While the pair is not completely resigning from royal life, they do plan to split time of residence between the U.K. and North America. Still, it comes as a shock to the entire world.
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
The coupleâs already unconventional marriage now feels even more radical. But without a doubt, many sympathize with Harry and Meghanâs decision to make their bittersweet exit, especially considering some of the hurdles the two have encountered since their union, namely Britsh racism and digging into Meghan’s personal life. In early October 2019, Prince Harry released an official statement after Meghan became a target of several British tabloids leading up to the birth of their child. He wrote, âUnfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences.â Because of incidents like this, itâs not surprising that Harry and Meghan want to detach.Â
Â
Considering the outdated British monarchy system, itâs important to note that Harry and Meghan have been making strides to be independent since their partnership began. Meghan is not only a commoner, but she is an actress and a woman of color. And while everyone is in their feels about this unprecedented move, I honestly couldnât be prouder. This is the motivation I need for the new year, especially since this is most public example that your mental health and wellbeing comes first, even if youâre a royal.Â
Iâm not the only one that is impressed with the coupleâs decision to balance their time between the two regions. Twitter had their own hot (and hilarious) takes on the situation.

The Meghan and Harry story is great because itâs like a reverse Aladdin where the prince marries a commoner who rescues him from his castle.

Letâs have a moment to honor both the Duke and Duchess teaching us important lessons about self-care and respect for your partnerâs mental health. And I know weâll all be waiting to see what Meghan and Harry do in their next phase of life!
