You probably still remember where you were in 2009 when you heard about Michael Jackson’s death. The “King of Pop” died of a drug overdose at the age of 50, just when he was about to begin a series of performances which he believed would ignite a comeback in his career.
The saga of Michael’s death continued this month during the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, the late Jackson’s doctor. Yesterday, Dr. Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly supplying an insomnia-riden Jackson with powerful, operating-room strength anesthetics to help him sleep before his big comeback.
Dr. Murray, age 58, did not testify in court. He told police that he administered only a small dose of propofol – a potent anesthetic usually used in surgery – on the day Jackson died. The jury, however, ruled that Murray was ultimately responsible for Jackson’s death. He will be sentenced on November 29, and could serve up to four years in prison. He will likely lose his license to practice medicine.
