Miley Cyrus Is Bringing Back The Deep Side Part, I Fear

Just when we thought that the side part was officially dead, Miley Cyrus is bringing it back. I shouldn’t be surprised after the revival of low-rise jeans, lower-back tattoos, and miniskirts. Fashion trends of the 2000s are officially back. But I thought we all reached a consensus that side parts were done for like, ever? Hair trend cycles have always ebbed and flowed, especially because of TikTok — we’ve seen wolf cuts, curtain bangs, and even buzzcuts pop up on our social media pages. But now, the side part is coming back. And bestie, I don’t know how to feel.

Cyrus is also no stranger to testing out funky new hair trends. From Hannah Montana wig days, to the Bangerz buzzcut era, and to her long waves in the “Malibu” music video, Cyrus has never been afraid to experiment with her appearance. And right now she’s boldly entering her emo era, just in time for the New Year.

On Dec, 9, Cyrus hard launched her new look with an Instagram post to promote her New Year’s Eve Party with Dolly Parton on NBC. She has also officially changed her profile picture, so it seems that this new look is here to stay.

Cyrus is receiving some very mixed reviews, and let’s just say I’m feeling just as conflicted. Some of the top comments on her post affectionately point out how much of a resemblance Cyrus has to her mother, Tish Cyrus.

“OMG she looks just like her mom🥹🤍” one user writes.

Others poke fun at the singer’s new hair.

“She wants to speak with da manager” writes another (ouch).

However, this isn’t the first time that Cyrus rocked a side part recently. On May 17, Cyrus posted a photo of herself on IG rocking dark eyeliner, red lips, and the deepest side part I’ve seen since 2008. Weirdly enough, she kind of rocks it.

Side parts aren’t limited to Cyrus’, either. It’s not crazy to think that they may be making a comeback moving into 2023. I’ve already seen a few videos on my FYP testing out the new look. And as much as I despise side parts, I have to admit that Cyrus makes it work. Then again, she can kind of make any hairstyle work, IMO. Honestly, my opinion is definitely just jaded from my middle school side part and pencil eyebrow combo. Never going back.

My final verdict: Miley can do what Miley wants, but I’ll be sticking to my middle part. Your hair, your business bestie!
