I don’t know about you, but British rom-coms from the ’90s and early 2000s are some of my favorite films ever. If you’ve seen anything starring Hugh Grant in his most beautiful days, you probably feel the same. The star got his big break in the 1994 filmĀ Four Weddings and a Funeral, permanently winning over my heart as the perfect British gentleman watching his friends get married.
Mindy Kaling has a similar fondness for rom-coms, and her newest project will useĀ Four Weddings…Ā as inspiration.Ā The Hollywood ReporterĀ says that KalingĀ is working on a Hulu anthology series remake of the film that will introduce a different storyline each season. With this in the works, I’m officially prepared for a world withoutĀ TheĀ Mindy Project.Ā
Writing the show with herĀ Mindy ProjectĀ showrunner Matt Warburton, Kaling will also executive produceĀ withĀ Four WeddingsĀ writer Richard Curtis, who’sĀ the mind behind films likeĀ Love Actually, Notting HillĀ andĀ About Time.Ā If that partnership isn’t enough to make you excited about this project, your heart is clearly made of ice.Ā
Nothing about the show’s casting or release date has been revealed yet, but I have so much faith in KalingĀ to make this absolutely amazing. This world needs a little more rom-com goodness.Ā
