The Morning Scroll: Taylor Swift Announces New Album ‘Lover’ & Sarah Sanders Resigns As White House Press Secretary

President Donald Trump has been known from time to time to misspell some words on his social media account, and in his latest Twitter mishap Thursday, he botched the spelling of Prince Charles’ official title, referring to him as the “Prince of Whales.”

 

Trump misspelled the royal’s title amid a tweet firestorm Thursday, in which he referenced Prince Charles as part of an argument that he should not have to divulge details of his discussions with world leaders to the FBI, HuffPost reports.

 

“I meet and talk to ‘foreign governments’ every day. I just met with the Queen of England (U.K.), the Prince of Whales, the P.M. of the United Kingdom, the P.M. of Ireland, the President of France and the President of Poland. We talked about ‘Everything!’” Trump wrote.

 

“Should I immediately call the FBI about these calls and meetings? How ridiculous! I would never be trusted again,” Trump added. “With that being said, my full answer is rarely played by the Fake News Media. They purposely leave out the part that matters.”

 

Trump quickly deleted the post and corrected the mistake, but Twitter users were already poking at the president’s error, PEOPLE reports.

 

Trump’s tweets come one day after he told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that if foreign operatives offered damaging information on his 2020 opponent, he’d take it.

 

“There’s nothing wrong with listening… It’s not interference,” he said. “They have information. I think I’d take it. If I thought there was something wrong, I’d go maybe to the FBI — if I thought there was something wrong. But when somebody comes up with oppo research, right, they come up with oppo research, ‘Oh let’s call the FBI.’ The FBI doesn’t have enough agents to take care of it. When you go and talk, honestly, to congressmen, they all do it, they always have, and that’s the way it is. It’s called oppo research.”

 

Rumor Has It

The pop singer took to Instagram Live on Thursday to announce the name of her upcoming album: “Lover.” Swift shared that the “romantic” album is set for release on August 23, and has 18 tracks on it, making it her longest album yet, TIME reports.  

“This album, in tone, it’s very romantic,” Swift revealed during her livestream. “Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs or something. The idea of something being romantic…it doesn’t have to be a happy song. You can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through things in your life… it just looks at those things through a romantic gaze.”

But if that wasn’t enough for enthusiastic Swifties, the singer also revealed that she would also be dropping a new single, “You Need to Calm Down,” Thursday night. The video for the new song drops on Monday, June 17, premiering on Good Morning America first, then YouTube.

Swift also thanked her fans during her announcement for their dedication and for putting their detective skills to use.

The pop singer had teased Thursday’s announcement a day earlier, telling fans that she was going to fill everyone in on “stuff and things,” E! News reports. The announcement comes one month after Swift dropped her song “ME!” with Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie.

“In the “ME!” music video there were a lot of foreshadowing clues,” Swift admitted during her announcement, noting that fans had correctly guessed the album title based on Easter eggs in the music video. The pop singer also noted that the August 23 release date is no coincidence, either.

“August is the eighth month of the year. 23, 2 + 3, you just add it all together, 8 + 2 + 3 equals… I’m obnoxious,” she joked.

We couldn’t be any more excited for this new T-Swift era! August 23 couldn’t come any faster!

Then This Happened

 

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders is leaving her post, President Donald Trump tweeted out Thursday.

“After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas,” Trump tweeted. “She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”

During an unrelated White House event on Thursday, Sanders said she would miss working for Trump but she planned to spend more time with her three children, HuffPost reports.

“It’s truly been something that I will treasure forever. It’s the greatest job I’ve ever had. I’ve loved it — even the hard minutes,” Sanders said.

Trump also spoke at the event and reiterated his hope that Sanders would eventually run for governor.

“If we can get her to run for the governor of Arkansas, I think she’d do very well. I keep trying to get her to do that,” Trump said.

Sanders was named White House Press Secretary in July 2017, just hours after former press secretary Sean Spicer resigned from the position, ABC News reports.

There were rumors last year that Sanders would leave the White House. In June 2018, CBS News reported that Sanders “has told friends that she plans to leave the administration at the end of the year.” Sanders pushed back on the report via Twitter but did not deny it.

Throughout her time in the post, Sanders has adopted Trump’s tactics towards the media and has been one of the president’s most ardent defenders.

Sanders will be leaving her post by the end of the month and returning to her home state of Arkansas.
