If you’ve watched Netflix’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” there’s probably a good chance that you’ve fallen in love with Noah Centineo and Lana Condor, the actors who play the handsome Peter Kavinsky and the adorable Lara Jean Covey. The two actors’ onscreen chemistry is undeniable, and some fans have even speculated that the two are dating IRL (but sadly it looks like Condor is already taken). But while Centineo and Condor gush over each other in interviews, it turns out it always wasn’t that way — Centineo says that Condor straight up rejected him the first time they met.
Earlier this month, Condor revealed to The Cut that she was so nervous about her audition that when Centineo (who she calls “this beautiful, tall, stupidly charming boy”) approached her to run lines with him, she rejected his request.
“I sat down, I was focused, and then this beautiful, tall, stupidly charming boy walks through the door into the waiting room. I was like, No, Lana. Not today!” Condor said. He sits down next to me and asks, ‘Do you want to read lines with me?’ I’m like, No, I’m sorry but I really need to focus. Later, we were chemistry reading with potential Peter. At the very bottom was Noah’s name. I thought he was going to hate me!”
On Thursday, August 30th, Centineo stopped by E! Daily Pop where he told his side of the rejection tale.
“When we first met in the audition room before any of us had booked it, we were sitting waiting in like the lobby and I saw her and I was like, ‘Hey do you want to run lines?’” Noah told E!. “And she was like, ‘No.’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool, fine, I’ll just die here.’”
Poor Noah!
“I didn’t even remember asking her that. She had actually told that story months later in the press,” Centineo continued. “Then we just read together and it was…[perfect].”
When asked whether he think that Condor thought he was trying to hit on her, Centineo said “maybe,” according to Hello Giggles. Centineo also went on to explain why he asked Condor to run lines with him.
“I ask people to read lines in the audition room if they look nervous!” he said. “It’s always easier if you’re running with a stranger before do it with the casting director. It helps you get the nerves out. And if someone else looks nervous, then it totally is gonna help them too. If you can do it with some random person you just met, you can easily go into a room and do it again.”
How sweet of him!
Watch his interview with E! Daily Pop below and prepare to fall in love with Centineo even more (if that’s even possible).
Could Centineo be any more perfect? We think not.
