Besties, I’ve got great news. I know we’ve all been highly anticipating Spotify Wrapped 2022, and let me tell you, this year, they delivered in every aspect. I always look forward to seeing everyone post their top artists and most streamed songs of the year come late November and early December. However, this year you may have noticed a brand new feature (aside from the Listening Personality and Audio Day) that has sent fans into a frenzy. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about: It’s the personalized artist messages! That’s right, our favorite artists sent out sweet messages to their fans, and one artist in particular has got everyone talking: Olivia Rodrigo. Rodrigo confirmed that she would be releasing new music 2023 — no, this is not a drill!
The addition of exclusive artist messages to this year’s Spotify Wrapped was a surprising and, quite honestly, refreshing way to mix up the format that listeners have grown to expect. While, yes, I do love seeing everyone’s different stats posted to their Instagram stories, I’m selfish in the fact that I care about my Wrapped the most (yes, I am a Leo). Adding in personalized artist messages creates a new sense of connection between us listeners and our beloved artists, and it’s being pretty well-received by many fans online.
Rodrigo’s fans were incredibly keen on the major Wrapped update, and rightfully so! Her message was very sweet and sincere, thanking her listeners for listening to her music throughout the year. In her message, she said, “I really, truly couldn’t be more grateful, and I’m so excited for next year and all of the new things and new music that 2023 will bring.”
And, I mean really: Who isn’t excited about this announcement? The last time that Rodrigo released new music was in 2021, and after racking up three wins at the Grammys, we should have known that our queen was in the middle of working hard on brand new music.
Her debut album, Sour, gained quite the attention, from fans and Rodrigo’s acquaintances alike. After its release, Sour dethroned Lady Gaga’s The Fame as the longest-running debut album on the Billboard 200 Top 10. Talk about iconic! The album also sparked some drama online with many believing that some of Rodrigo’s music was about Joshua Bassett, with Sabrina Carpenter getting thrown into the mix after allegedly having a relationship with him.
With confirmation from Rodrigo herself, fans can now relax, and just get excited for her new releases to come next year. Though we loved the Sour era, it will be reviving to see Rodrigo step into a new part of her career with new music next year! The number one question on my mind after seeing Rodrigo’s artist video for Wrapped is if we can expect a single… or potentially an all-new album? And also, what era is Rodrigo going to be heading into? I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see!
