Get excited, inhabitants of planet Earth, because Paris is taking major leaps forward in the effort to cut down on greenhouse gases! According to Business Insider, Paris City Hall announced on Thursday that authorities plan to ban petrol- (gasoline) and diesel-fueled cars by 2030.
Considering that the French capital will be hosting the Olympic Games in the summer of 2024, the urge to end gas-guzzling cars couldn’t have come at a better time. The country is aiming to make the switch to electric vehicles, making a positive impact on the reduction of particle pollution in the air. France has even set a target date of 2040 to end cars to dependent on fossil fuels, according to Insider.
“This is about planning for the long term with a strategy that will reduce greenhouse gases,” said Christophe Najdovski, an official responsible for transport policy. “Transport is one of the main greenhouse gas producers…so we are planning an exit from combustion engine vehicles, or fossil-energy vehicles, by 2030,” he told France Info radio, Insider reports.
This is a major step forward in an effort to be kinder to Mother Nature and protect the planet from transport-related pollution. Major props to Paris!
