Pete Davidson made his first appearance since his breakup with Kim Kardashian at the 2022 Emmy Awards on Sept. 12, and people on Twitter couldn’t help but notice an ~interesting~ tidbit about how his look compared to one worn by none other than his ex’s ex, Kanye West. Davidson wore a gray Dickies jacket and matching pants while presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series (which Ted Lasso won, BTW). For any other celebrity, honestly, I doubt anyone would bat an eye. But people quickly pointed out that Davidson’s look was nearly identical to the one West wore to the 2019 Met Gala.
The jacket West wore in 2019 was black and Davidson’s Emmys version was gray, but otherwise, the two wore the exact same look. Kanye hit the iconic Met Gala steps in the jacket three years ago with Kardashian, who wore a custom Thierry Mugler latex number adorned with beads. Pete accessorized his look at the Emmys with a pair of white sunglasses.
After Davidson’s appearance — which, for what it’s worth, didn’t include any mention of his past drama with West or his relationship with Kardashian — people took to Twitter to call out the similarity.
There’s no denying Davidson and West wore the same thing. But as for the intention behind the look? That’s less clear, and TBH, it’s probably meaningless. Some Twitter users came to Davidson’s defense, saying the fact that he wore a Dickies Eisenhower jacket really meant nothing. One user wrote, “Pete’s been wearing Dickies, so maybe it’s a case of Pete likes Dickies. Kanye doesn’t own Dickies. Kanye isn’t the only person who’s allowed to wear Dickies.”
Anyone who’s remotely familiar with West and Davidson know their relationship (if you could call it that) while Davidson was dating Kardashian was hostile. They went head-to-head on more than one occasion, like back in March when West released a music video for “Eazy” that showed violence against Davidson, and later that month when texts between the two were released showing Davidson telling West to “stop being a little b*tch boy.”
It looks like the “stole my look” drama of the Emmys is just the latest between these two, but whether it’s real or just an innocent joke among fans, we may never know.
