We all know that President Trump has gotten some heat for sexist remarks made both during his campaign and his time in office, and he hasn’t shown any sign of stopping. He recently took criticism for his comments about MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski, but that didn’t stop him from making similar comments about French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte Macron. While she has no “official” title, the wife of France’s president is seen in a similar light to the First Lady in the USA.
But don’t worry, no one is letting Trump’s comments fly under the radar, especially not Reebok. The athletic-wear company had some things to say to the President over Twitter about this incident, Refinery29 shares.
When Trump visited France this past week, he obviously spent some time with President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron. When he met Brigitte, he said to her “You’re in such good shape,” then turned to President Macron and told him, “She’s in such good physical shape. Beautiful.” This left people everywhere questioning how Trump could possibly believe this is an appropriate comment to make to (and about) someone who is basically a First Lady.
Reebok posted their opinion about the incident in a Tweet which pointed out, in an easy to follow infographic, when such a comment can be made appropriately. The infographic, below, points out that there is only ONE situation in which this comment is appropriate, and it is most certainly not when you are “a world leader greeting the spouse of a head of state.”
In case it wasn’t obvious, here’s a quick spoiler: it’s pretty much never appropriate. So let’s start complimenting women on something other than their appearances, okay?
