How did you get your Broadway start? It all started when my parents encouraged me to try Crystal Theater, a local community theater, because I loved to sing so much. I literally sang all the time, so they probably wanted a productive outlet for me. After I had a taste of the spotlight, I was hooked, and kept performing in more shows, until I asked my parents if I could have an agent. I booked a national tour, and my resume kept growing. I had a few Off-Broadway shows under my belt before I auditioned for Spring Awakening, which was just an Off-Broadway run at the time. We did not have plans to go to Broadway until the buzz around the show became huge and there was financial support to move uptown.

How does it make you feel to know that there is still a huge Spring Awakening fan base? It warms my heart! It’s always a pleasant surprise because the show has been closed for a few years and so I thought it would fade away in people’s memories. I still get recognized on the street, which is hilarious to my friends. I love the fans, I think they’re great. It makes me happy to see that the show touched so many hearts and even changed their lives.

How do you handle school and auditions? One of the big reasons why I love Columbia is because of its close location to midtown, where most of my auditions are.  I have been juggling school and auditions since sixth grade, and while it’s not easy sometimes, I make it work.

Dream role: Wow, I have so many! Eponine in Les Miz, Olive in Spelling Bee, Natalie in Next to Normal, are just a few.

Funny audition stories: I was very nervous to be in final callbacks for Spring Awakening.  The creative team was looking at my resume and Michael Mayer asked if I lived in Connecticut. Not wanting that detail to deter him from casting me, I said, “Yes, I currently live in Connecticut, but it’s only a train ride away!” He replied, “So is Chicago, honey.” Thank goodness everyone found that funny and I ended up cast!

Another funny audition story – I was reading the scene for a show, and when I finished, there was a weird energy in the room. It felt like people were expecting something more.  The casting director asked me to read the scene again, and the same effect happened. Finally, we figured out I had been missing the last page, and I had to read the last part of the scene on the spot. Okay…so that’s not too funny. That was pretty crazy.

Favorite onstage memory: I had individual moments with every single person that would make my night. My favorite was smiling/smirking at Jon Groff during My Junk. He always had the biggest smile on his face and his energy was infectious! Of course there were also a lot of drunk people who were not aware of how ridiculous they looked to us. So entertaining.

Senior bucket list: Go to senior night every week, be better friends with Brian LaPerche, support my friend’s events, go to Holi on the plaza, and stop making excuses like “EC is too far,” because it’s really not.

Favorite Spice Girl: Baby Spice. I was always Baby Spice.

Ideal date: I’ve always wanted to ride a tandem bike…

Plans after graduation: I’m going to stay in New York and audition. Maybe I’ll try the big move to LA!

Relationship status: Single.

Mel’s decides to make a custom burger/shake in your name, describe & name it: My shake would be made of coconut milk, raspberries, strawberries, and cinnamon. I’d name it with a pun because puns are amazing. Unfortunately, none are coming to mind right now.

Spirit animal: I definitely went through a phase of being obsessed with lions and then with owls. But I’m going to say that my spirit animal is probably a hummingbird.

Superpower: Flight. Never having to deal with traffic sounds too good to be true. Or the ability to run just as efficiently on less sleep.
