Last night were the 47th Annual Country Music Association Awards, also known as country music’s biggest night of the year. As usual, the ceremony didn’t disappoint: the performances were awesome, the presenters lively, and all of country’s biggest stars were there to help celebrate.
Our favorite wins of the night were for Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who took home Male Vocalist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, respectively. As the two have been getting far more headlines for divorce and cheating rumors lately, we were glad to see those allegations wane and the pair back in the spotlight for a positive reason.
Blake also took home Album of the Year for Based on a True Story. As he said during his speech, “I mentioned earlier today that if there was one award that would mean the most to me tonight, it would be album of the year.”
The biggest win of the night, however, went to George Strait for Entertainer of the Year. “You guys that were nominated, you’re such powerful entertainers,” he told his contenders in his speech. “I’m just so thrilled even to be nominated again.”
The other bigger winner was Taylor Swift, who took home the Pinnacle Award which is given to an artist whose “talent and presence will have a long-term positive impact on the appreciation of country music for generations to come.” Garth Brooks is the only other entertainer to ever receive this coveted award.
