Sam Smith and Kim Petras appeared at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards to perform their smash hit “Unholy,” which won for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The two made a fiery, sexy performance involving long-haired robed dancers, whips, and a cage. For horror movie fans, you may have noticed that Smith’s dancers were serving The Ring realness a la Samara Morgan. Truly, a devil-ish dream come true.
The song’s win also meant that Petras became the first openly transgender woman to win this award. During their acceptance speech, Petras also shouted out the late artist SOPHIE for inspiring her work, and fans are feeling all the feels.
Smith and Petras also appeared on the Grammys red carpet with Violet Chachki, the seventh-season winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Gottmik, the first openly transgender man to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race and third place on the show’s thirteenth season.
Both Violet Chachki and Gottmik appeared in the “Unholy” music video. The quartet appeared all in red outfits. Smith wore a large billowing red coat with a matching red top hat and sparkling cane. Petras rocked a large ruby amulet with a short red poofy dress and a floor-length red veil.
Most recently on Jan. 22, Smith appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest alongside host Aubrey Plaza. They joined Kim Petras for a live performance of “Unholy,” where Petras hid under Smith’s ruffled pink dress and popped out just in time for her part. Later in the show, Smith sang the haunting track “Gloria” with a a full, sparkly-hooded choir.
But after the Grammys, all fans will be talking about is that… unique (and iconic!) performance. Twitter is having a ball with this one.
