We can’t imagine what it would be like to have the world want to know every little detail about your life. So we can understand where Selena Gomez was coming from during her latest interview with GQ. In the interview, the pop star made it very clear she does not want to talk about her past—and she wishes everyone else felt the same!
When the interviewer asked about her 2014 stint in rehab, Gomez was quick to shut him down. During that time of her life, the songstress had been dealing with a lot in her personal life, all while being in the public eye. “First off, this is something that everyone always wants to fixate on,” Gomez explains. “I got diagnosed with lupus. My mom had a very public miscarriage. So I just had to cancel my tour. I needed time to just be okay.”
She expressed her irritation with the media’s constant interest in her personal life, saying, “It’s really frustrating. My past seems to be way more fascinating for people than my future, which bums me out.”
The more we love our favorite celebrities, the more we want to know about their personal lives—but that doesn’t mean it isn’t hard for them. Gomez emphasized that she doesn’t understand why everyone is so fascinated with knowing every detail about her hardships and struggles. “Because it’s, I don’t know, fun, maybe? It’s like watching a car crash as you’re driving past it. You want to watch it.”
We are so happy that Selena seems to be doing much better in her personal life these days! We hope the media attention can begin to focus more on the future of Selena’s awesome career than the struggles of her past.Â
