The wait for Selena Gomez to return to the acting business is over, but instead of being the one doing the acting, she’ll be producing. The series was picked up by Netflix, and is based off of Jay Asher’s young adult novel 13 Reasons Why, released back in 2007. Selena will be working on alongside her mother on the project.
Selena spoke about the project at Sundance this past week, saying, “Four or five years ago, I found this book end fell in love with it. I think I was still in high school. Now we’re here. We took our time with it.”
Actually, many people got to read Asher’s novel in high school, as it deals with high school issues. It follows a boy in high school who is given cassette tapes made by a girl named Hannah Baker, who recently committed suicide. The tapes list the reasons why Hannah killed herself, and they instruct the listener to pass them on to his peers.
We think it’s great that Selena has gotten behind a series with such a powerful theme that many people struggle with today. It takes guts to explore a project covering this heavy of an issue.
Although Selena can’t confirm that she’ll make any sort of cameo appearance in this series, she will be on screen in the upcoming movies Neighbors 2 and The Fundamentals of Caring. We love that she’s killing it so far in 2016, don’t you, collegiettes?
